Plans for the Hanover Crossing development call for the demolition of the enclosed mall, built in 1971, and development of an open-air complex that would combine retail and entertainment businesses. The new development would have about 600,000 square feet of retail space, about 200,000 less than the present mall, Callahan said.
Part of the plan calls for selling about 8 acres of land where the present Patriot Cinemas complex is to The Hanover Company for the development of four, four-story apartment buildings containing a total of 297 units.
The plans are now being reviewed by officials in Hanover and Norwell. The Hanover Planning Board is scheduled to discuss the proposal at 7 p.m. July 29 in the media room of Hanover Town Hall.
Callahan said that once the local approvals are received, the owners hope to begin demolishing the present mall next spring. Stores would open in late 2021.
